On December 5 and 6 2019, Olympus supported the 4th Annual ESD, POEM and Submucosal Endoscopy Masterclass with Westmead Hospital and Professor Michael Bourke as hosts
Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is an advanced technique of therapeutic endoscopy for resection of superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms. ESD is increasingly being performed for early gastric cancers and spares the patient open surgery. Leading Gatroenterologists from Europe and Japan are already using this intervention in their daily protocol.
Professor Michael Bourke is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. His clinical work and research spans many facets of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy, with a focus on endoscopic resection of advanced mucosal neoplasia and early cancer at all sites in the gastrointestinal tract. These credentials make Professor Bourke the ideal preceptor to instruct and preceptor his peers to perform this technically challenging procedure.
Delegates relished the opportunity to spend time with Professor Bourke and ask questions as they came to mind whilst observing live cases. The ability to practice these skills the following day with porcine tissue was also highly valued.
